We knew that the local was to work in Monroe, so we tried to locate it there. We were unsuccessful, but soon we heard a whistle from the north. We found the UP/KCS crossing in town, and got the train there. Despite the lone locomotive the train was quite long. But then the scenery is rather flat in the area and most cars seemed to be empties.

It was late in the afternoon, and we didn't see more trains in daylight. We checked into a motel in Vicksburg MS, and in the evening there were of course trains all over the place... We enjoyed the atmosphere in town until late that night.
